NAPIER, June 10. : In a 15-round contest here to-night, Eddia Parker (Hastngs) defeated Max Gornik (Australia) on points. The fight was very willing. At first Parker appeared to -have matters his own way, but towards the end the Australian brightened up, and went for a’ knock-out. Parker's quickness and agility sated, him a great deal of punishment, but both men received a severe milling. Both Gornik’s eyes received severe attention, and Parker's nose was troubling him. Gornik received a severe jolt in the third round, and. had Parker sailed in then he could probably ha”e ended the fight. The encounter was. very clean from start to finish. RIFLE SHOOTING. A meeting of the Otago Hockey Association was held on Tuesday last, when it was decided to make every endeavour to send a First Grade team to Wellington in August to compete at the tournament for the Challenge Shield, Ail appeal is to be made to all local supporters to raise funds to assist ia deftaying the expenses of the players. The matter of nominating players for the test match against Australia was loft in thq hands of the selector. The new rules permitting for a seven.yards margin in the roll-in wore received from headquarters, and adopted by the local association. A further meeting was arranged for next j week to consider the best means of raising funds for the expenses of the Challenge Sliicld team.
