DETECTIVES IN HIDING.
(From Oue Own Coeeespondent.) LONDON, May S. An attempt was made on Wednesday evening to break into the New Zealand Shipping Company's offices at the Royal Albert Docks. Tort of London Authority detectives arrested John Finch, JO, of Dow, and William Coleman, -3, of Bromley, labourers, who were charged at East Ham Police Court with the offence The evidence showed that twice in the course of the evening Detective-inspectors Law and Adams, who were in hiding, saw the men tamper with the door of the cash office. On the occasion of their second visit Finch took something from his pocket, and whilst Coleman pushed with his shoulders lie appeared to try to force open the door. They then sealed a fence and went between the cash office and the export office. Returning, they again tried to force the door, after which they crossed the railway. They were subsequently arrested, rind a jemmy which one of the men had dropped was recovered. It was discovered that a stone had been wedged between the door and the jamb, and there were numerous marks on the framework. The accused were remanded in, custody.
