(Received June 10, at 5.5 p.m.) Middlesex, playing Yorkshire, made 118 in tho first innings (Robinson taking 5 wickets for 52 runs) and in the second innings 271 (Stevens 65, Hearne 91). lorkshire in their first innings made 538 runs for 6 wickets, declared (Holmes, 315, not out, .Sutcliffe 58, Leyland 61). Yorkshire won by an innings, four wickets, and 149 runs. Holmes broke the Lords record of 278 runs made in 1820 by William Ward and he also made the highest score by an Englismau since 1905, and the highest in his life. He batted for 405 minutes and hit 38 fours. He did not give a single chance. Lancashire, playing Surrey, made 371 runs in their first inings (Makepeace 72, E. Tyldesley 82, Watson 120). Fender took 6 wickets for 86 runs. Surrey, in their first innings, made 71 (M'Donald taking 4 for 30, Tyldesley 3 for 7 and Parkin 3 for 17), in their second innings 283 (Sandham 117). In the second inings M’Donald took 6 for 112. Lancashire won by an innings and 17 runs. Playing for Gloucester against Derby, Hammond took 5 for 57 in the first innings and Parker 8 for 56 in the second; Gloucester won.. Playing for Northants against Warwick, Woolley made 164 and Enright 112. Tho latter also rook 5 wickets for 66. For Warwick Howell took 5 wickets lor 120; Northants won. For Worcester, against Sussex, Rodgers made 118 (not out), Root took 5 wickets for 64 in the first innings and 5 for 78 in the second. For Sussex Wensley took 5 wickets for 56 in the first innings and Tate 6 for 56 in the second: Sussex won. For Notts, against Leicester, Carr mad© 206 and ’Matthews took 6 wickets for 81 ; Notts won. —Reuter. Percy Holmes has been one of the loading Yorkshire players for some years: He occupied tenth place in the averages last season with a total of 1954 runs for an avferage of 39.87 runs. Playing for his county he made 1610 runs in first-class matches at an average of 35.77, being second only to Sutcliffe.
