HEADING OF CALVES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sm, —In youi issue of the 6th inst. I read the report of a lecture on calf-rearing at a meeting of cattle-breeders. In my opinion the lecturer made on serious mistake. He says that after the calf is born it should be fed with its mother’s milk. This is quite correct, but when he says that it is immaterial whether the calf gets these first few feeds direct from its mother or from a bucket, I think he is wrong. I believe it is of the utmost importance that a calf should get at least its first three or four feeds direct from its mother.—l am, etc., K. C. W.
