LORD ALLENBY’S TASK
TRIBUTE BY CRITICS. BRITISH PRESTIGE HIGH LONDON, May 22. Although Lord Allenby’s resignation has ended a lengthy period cf suspense and uncertainty, ihe Cairo correspondent of The Times says that his departure ; a genuinely regretted, even by his critics, who unstintingly praise his straightforward character and deep sense of justice and fair play. It is realised that Lord Allenby s term of office coincided with far the m6st difficult and most delicate period of Egypt’s known modern history, and it must in all fairness bo noted that at tho moment of his retirement British prestige was never 'higher.. Tho foreign communities, who, not long ago, were inclined to criticise Britain and sympathise with Egypt, to-day unite solidly in support of the British policy. The hope is everywhere expressed that! no long interval will be allowed to elapse between Lord Alienby’s departure and Sir George Lloyd’s arrival
