Good Housekeeping is one of the finest English periodicals it is possible to buy. Without being spoilt by the ultra-modern note which so often comes with American, magazines, its appeal to New Zealanders is a wide and lasting one, and every issue is good. The April contents show some splendid features, all beautifully illustrated either with photographs or drawings. There are articles on all aorta of subjects, all written by good authorities on, l the subject, and all within the scope of the house-wife; there are stories, both short and serial, by leading English writers, and there is a quantity of verse. Altogether, the magazine is worthy of high praise. Our copy is from Messrs Gordon and Gotoh. Messrs Hutchison and Co. have published three magazines—Sovereign, Mystery, and Ad-venture-Story. Each is illustrated and each is a splendid publication of its kind. In the Sovereign is the sequel to “Colin"— “Colin II.” by E. F. Benson, and stories by Marjorie Bowen, J. Allan Dunn, and others. It also offers to every purchaser a free seat in the kinema. Mystery is a double-spring number with numerous good stories by such writers as the Rl. Hon. Earl of Birkenhead Sax Rohmer, Mrs Belloc Downdes, and others. Adventure-Story contains a dramatic story by J. Allan Dunn, a fine romance, “In Strange Waters," by H. Bedford-Joncs; “The Gold Cat,” by Arthur Mills; and “M’Caskio,” by Hilton Brown. The rest of the stories are on a par with these. Our copies come from Messrs Gordon and Gotch. The latest number of Little Folks (per Messrs Gordon and Gotch) gives further chap ters in the serial stories “The Testing of the Torment,” “Kiddies of the Camp,” and “Under the White Cockade,’ ’while tho fifth in the series, “The Great Deeds of Sandy, is also given. • There arc a number of fine short stories, some poems, and a collection of articles of wide interest and appeal. The whole publication, with its many illustrations in colour and otherwise, is to be highly recommended for boys and girls who are still children. ' Two publications from Caasel’s, the Storyteller and Cassell’s Magazine, arc to hand. The second of these is .lavishly illustrated and contains two fine articles, one by Sir Oliver Lodge, and one by Brigadier-General J. H. Morgan on “Drawing Germany’s War Teeth. In addition there are two long complete novels and some. ’Father Brown" stories. The Story-teller is wholly devoted to (fiction, and, Horn the collection of eminent writers who contribute to its pages, should be of interest to all readers. Our copies come from Messrs Gordon and Gotch. The Corner Magazine, another of Cassell’s publications (per Messrs Gordon and Gotch), contains some exciting stories by present-day writers. Richard Washburn Child, Frank 11. fshaw, Bertha Ruck, and Francis Beeding are some of the contributors, and the magazine is illustrated in black and white. From its artistic cover by Rilettc, to its last page of advertisement the Smart Sot for April tper Messrs Gordon and Gotch) is smart and witty. in tone it is decidedly French, and its illustrations iu black aiKi white strengthen the impression. Storied - , verse, and bright little paragraphs constitute its contents, while there is a photographic supplement ot pretty girls. The True Story Magazine and True Love Stories are fwo publications from Messrs Gordon and Gotch. Their titles speak for themselves. They arc illustrated with photographs.
