Flight Route Map of the Sporting Chief of the Italian Air Staff. SAFELY landed in Australia (at Broome) Wing Commander the Marchese De Pinedo described his remarkable long distance flight which can be followed by reference to the route map above. From Kupang to Broome is 570 miles and he covered the distance in six hours. De Pinedo said during the first stage of the flight from Brindisi to Alexandria, conditions were good but from Bombay to Calcutta was the most uncomfortable part of the journey, a height of 9,000 feet having to be kept. De Pinedo on reaching Melbourne will overhaul his machine and continue his journey. Supplies of e Sheir Motor Spirit are in readiness at all the points of the long journey yet to be made f ere he again reaches Italy. ■yHIS is the third flight across * Europe to Australia, the two previous flights being those of the late Sir Ross Smith with his brother Keith Smith, and Parer with his mechanic Mclntosh, both in 1920 —in all three flights “Shell” Motor Spirit was chosen because of its superiority in the air and on the land. w sc THE BRITISH IMPERIAL OIL CO.
