Burns left by the north express for Wellington on Saturday. Mr J. L. Bruce left bv Saturday’s north express, en route for Wellington. Mr J. S. Ilislop arrived in Dunedin by the express from the north on Saturday. Mr' James Ormiston left by the north express on Saturday, en 'route for Wellington. • The Hon. Mark Cohen, M.L.C., was a passenger by the express for Wellington on Saturday. , ' „ , The Hon. J. A. Hanan left for Invercargill on Saturday to visit his constituents. Mr Irvine Elston, representative of Messrs E. and J. Carroll, has returned to Dunedin to make final arrangements for the Kreisler concert. . , Mr G. A, Martin, now resident in Wellington, who has been on a visit to Dunedin loft for the north by the express on Saturday. , A Press Association cablegram from Sydney states that Archbishop Julius underwent an operation on Friday night. He is reported to be doing well. According to a Reuter cablegram from London, the Limerick Corporation tinanimouslv voted the Freedom of the City to Dr Mnnnix, Archbishop of Melbourne. Mr IJilmcr Davie, who for a number of vears has been conductor of the Kaikorai Band, has now resigned from that position. Mr TV E. Eggleton, late of Forbury School, and at present head master of Irwell School, Canterbury, has been appointed first assistant master in Waltham, School, Christchurch. . ... Mr W. M'. Singleton, director of the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture, was a passenger by the express for the north on Saturday, en route to Wellington. , ~, T T , Mr W. E. S. Knight and Mr J. Jacobs (chairman and scrotary respectively of the Otago Hospital Board), who have been attending a conference of Hospital Boards in Auckland, returned to Dunedin by the express on Saturday. The death is announced (says our Auckland correspondent) of Mr Alexander Wyllie, aged sb, engineer and manager of the Auckland Electric Power Board, and formerly electrical engineer of the Auckland City Council. The funeral of the late Mr W. A. Notman took place at the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Representatives of the various staffs of the Otago - Daily Times and organisations with which he was connected were present, and the service was conducted by the Rev. R. Scott Allan. The death occurred at Tainui on Saturday of Mr L. D. Brovvett, at the age of 62 years. Mr Browett was formerly inspector of factories in. the Labour Office at Dunedin. and had previously been in charge of the Labour Department at Invercargill. He was stationed in Dunedin for a number of years, and from the service of the department two years ago. Mr H. Byron Moore is retiring from the position of secretary of the Victoria Raijjng Club, which he has held for 45 years. It is proposed by the committee that ho 'shall bo appointed advisor to the club at his. present salary and he made a life member. Mis' successor as secretary will receive a salary’ of £ls-00 a year, Cantain C. G. Neale, master, of the Hud-dart-Parker Company’s new cargo steamer Hobburn, which arrived at Dunedin on Saturday morning from New York, via ports, is well known at New Zealand ports. Ho was chief officer of the Riverina when that vessel was employed in the intercolonial service prior to the war. Captain Neale, who went to England towards the end of last, year, took command of the Hebburn when she loft the builder’s hands in March last. This is his first, visit to Dunedin since 1916.
