TAIERI COLLIE CLUB.
The beet of weather prevailed for the annual trials of the Tuieri Collie Club, which were concluded on Saturday alternoon at Mosgiel. All the arrangements worked very well, and the trials were looked upon as being highly satisfactory in every wav. The results were as follows: MAIDEN—HEAD, PULL, AND YARD. About -tOO yards. First prize £5, second prize £3, third prize £'2, fourth prize £l. Eighteen entries. —D. Fletcher, Finegand, Baiclutba, 27 points, 1; J. A. Murdoch, Toiro, 25 points, 2; F. Harris, Nightcaps, 24 points, 3; A. M’Millan, Pukeraugi, 21 points, 4. LOCAL-HEAD, PULL, AND WARD. About 40 yards. First prize £2, second prize £l, third prize 10s.—F. Burnet's Sam, 20 points, 1; A. Choyne’s gold medal, value £3 3s, to the competitor gaining the largest number of jioints at the trials. —Alex. Scott (Burnside) 175 poins. Mr D. Wilson's gold medal, value £3 3s, for unplaced competitor who had the largest number of points at the trials. —J. S. Waddell (Waikaka Valley). 153 points. The eheepguessing competitions resulted as follows First day, P. A. Watt (Warepa), correct weight guessed, 821 b. Second day, R. E. Hyde (Dunedin), correct weight guessed, 831 b. . . The distance stepping competition was won by A E. Gawn (Five Forks, Oamaru), who guesswi 28yda Ift Sin. The correct distance was 28yds Oft 4in. There aro nearly 100 quarries on the Isle of Portland (England), all Government property. Seventy thousand tons of stone is raised from them annually. He (whose motor car is stuck on high roadl : “ Dash ! She; “ What’s the matter, darling? ” “Short circuit! Confound it!” “ Well, can’t you screw in a longer one?”
