NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.
OTAGO PROVINCIAL COURT. A meeting 1 of the Otago Provincial Court Committee of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition was held yesterday, and was presided over by Air IV. B. Taverner, the other members present being Messrs Jasper Clark (Bruce County), T. Ramsay (Maniototo County), IV. Harris (Clutha County), - K. M'Donaid (Tuapeka County), C. Findlay (Taieri County), E. Aitcheson (Kaitangata), IV. Nicolson (Hampden), J. Black (Palmerston), S. B. Macdonald, and IV. B. Steel. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, thanked the representatives present for their support of the object, and especially for the ready response given to the appal for financial aid. He reported that to date the sum of £2045 had been promised, and that £SOO had been paid in, while the other amounts were, with few exceptions, in sight. He thought that this response was a tribute to the enthusiasm and willingness of all ranks of the people to stand behind their own court, and it really gave the; executive great heartening in their task. In outlining the results so far, the chairman mentioned that nine sectional committees had been set up, four of which had already sent m interim reports. Three other sectional committees were under way, and two had had not yet commenced. Very encouraging reports were submitted hv the Wool and Skins, Seeds and Grain, Fruit, and Decorations Committees, resumes of which were read to the meeting. The first tentative sketch plan of the court was shown, and various suggestions for improvement and amendment were noted. Tho secertary described the proposed change in the location of the court that had been rendered necessary by the applications for space being in excess of the allotment made by the directorate, and explained how it, would affect the plans already made. After discussion, Mr Macdonald moved —“That the plan as submitted be adopted, with such modifications as the executive may see fit to authorise to meet the exigencies of the various exhibits; also, that the space indicated in No. 2 building be secured, subject to arrangement satisfactory to tho executive and the directorate being concluded.” This was seconded by Mr Nicolson and carried. At the first meeting of the representatives the chairmen of counties and mayors of boroughs were appointed members, but the recent elections had somewhat upset that arrangement. On the motion of Mr Macdonald, seconded by Mr Findlay, it was agreed that the original personnel of the committee be retained, and that where a change had been made hv election the chairman or mayor so elected be also invited to attend as members. The Chairman mentioned that an offer had been made to the committee of facilities for broadcasting any information regarding the court, and that, full advantage would shortly be taken of tins', method of obtaining publicity. The committee received with pleasure the report that the Otago Harbour Board, proposed to exhibit a relief model of the harbour, and also, if possible, a working model of the Vulcan dredge at work on reclamation. The Secertary read apologies from the Mayors of Roxburgh and Kaitangata. and correspondence regarding several matters of interest.
