ATTEMPTS AT . FLOTATION. “A PRELIMINARY CANTER.’’ (From Cub Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, June 2. The efforts made to get tho Cyrena off the bank have not met with success, although it is stated that the attempts so far have been in tho nature of a preliminary cantor. A powerful air compressor pump has been brought from Wellington and will bo installed in the morning in tlie hope that it will bo able to assist materially in tho flotation of the vessel. Last evening an effort was made to sink a collision tarpaulin mat for the purpose of getting under the holes and forcing it in to fill tho gaps. However, tho mat refused to bo sunk, and after some time the attempt was given up as hopeless. The heavy swell made matters difficult. The sea is now calm, but heavy weather has set iu.
