FROM THE THE OTAGO DAILY TIMES “Inveniam viam aut faciam." THURSDAY, JUNE 1, 1865.
SIXTY YEARS AGO.
Our accounts from Dunstan show that snow has fallen heavily on the ranges and in consequence travelling was much impeded. The return Escort had to be left at the Upper Taieri Hill, in charge of the Sub-Inspector of the Escort, and only reached Clyde on Saturday morning. . . The non-nomination of Mr Manders at Tuapeka, as a candidate for the representation of the Gold Fields in the Assembly, is sufficiently accounted for by our Dunstan correspondent. He informs us that Messrs Manders and Jackson left Alexandra on the previous Sunday morning, and after various interruptions from snowstorms they missed their way, and had to spend the night in the open air, between the Teviot and Beaumont, near Pinkerton’s Bush. In consequence, the nomination was over before their arrival at Tuapeka.
