SHOPKEEPER'S MISTAKE
POISON INSTEAD OF SALTPETRE
AN ANXIOUS NIGHT,
Praia Association— By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May’ll. (Received May 11, at 9.30 p.m.) A Glasgow shopkeeper spent an anxious night owing to the fact that he sold a butcher a pound of salts of sorrel for preserving moat, instead of ■ saltpetre. When the shopkeeper discovered his error, and that ho had sold a deadly poison, he ran to the butcher’s shop, but found it closed. Ho returned at dawn, and awaited the opening of the shop. He was relieved to find that none of the poisoned meat had been sold, though it had been laid out on the counter in readiness.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
