HARBOUR BOARD EMPLOYEES. TO THE EDITOR. gni,—To anyone familiar with the conditions ’under which Harbour Board employees work, your paragraph in which a candidate for a’ seat on the board is reported as having said that the board’s employees were treated as slaves, is absurdly humorous. The members of the clerical staff have nothing to complain of as the}- receive holidays that would never be granted in a trading institution, Easter leave, in which the Tuesday was granted, and in some cases the Wednesday taken, being a typical example. Moreover," a member of the office staff can often be seen journeying homewards in the board’s oar and returning to work the following dav, although public transport services are available for his use. If this represents slavcdom, I am afraid there are many eager salves to be had.—l am, etc., Amused. THE HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION. . TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Tim Dunedin Citizens’ League “ticket’’ was received by me today through the uost. I have given to it my best consideration. I notice certain notable omissions in the recommendations for the Hospital Board. Why are Mr Knight and Mr Scurr left, out? I have always understood that they were most attentive to their duties. Oould the now board carryon efficiently in fho absence of these two gentlemen, who have the business at their fingers’ ends? These two tend to destroy confidence in the whole “ticket” of the Citizens’ League. Clearly, voters must think for themselves.—T am, etc., W. Sawders,
