RUGBY LEAGUE.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Otago Rugby League met last evening. Mr G. T. Cooper was in the chair. The Secretary of the Kaitangata, League Club wrote stating that the code was now firmly established, and an excellent team of young players was in training. The Secretary of the New Zealand Council wrote stating that a New Zealand team would visit Australia about August next. The Town Clerk wrote stating that the League had been granted three playing reserves —viz., Ovaly No. 1, Chisholm Park, and Montecillo. ■' The Secretaries of the West Coast, Canterbury, and Auckland Leagues forwarded their annual reports and balance sheets for perusal. The Secretary of the Canterbury League wrote stating that the official opening of Monica Park on April 18 was a decided success, despite the fact that on the two previous days there was a record rainfall for Christchurch, and flood waters were everywhere. The drainage of the park had exceeded all anticipations, and the grounds were in excellent order.

It was decided to open the season on Saturday next, and trial matches were , arranged as follows:—Christian Brothers -""bid Boys v. City, Oval No. 1; Pacific v. Athletic, Chisholm Park; a combined muster of seniors at Montecillo.

Messrs Lindsay, Devereaux, Watt, and Bray were appointed a Match Committee with instructions to prepare tho draw ter the first round, which was to commence on May 9. The Secretary of the New Zealand Referees’ Association wrote stating that the annual meeting would take place on May 7. The association’s constitution and annual report were tabled. —It was resolved to refer these to the Otago Referees’ Association for consideration.

The Secretary of the Manawatu League wrote stating that it was in the happy position of having playing grounds at its disposal, and if its tentative itinerary for this season were carried out in its entirety it would have a busy season. It was decided to hold executive meetings every Monday evening.
