CITY POLICE COURT.

Monday, A run, 27. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Two male first offenders for drunkenness were fined 20s, in default 24 hours, and 10s, .and 24 hours’ imprisonment, respectively. —■ —Catherine Theresa VVootton (Mr B. S. Irwin) pleaded guilty to a charge o£ drunkenness, and also to procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. —Mr Irwin said that the defendant was a hard-working woman, and that her lapse was due to the fact that she had procured liquor at a wedding.—Ensign Coombs also gave evidence in the woman’s favour. —Defendant was convicted and discharged on the charge of drunkenness, and fined 10s on the second charge. Passing Stationary Tran mar, —Henry Wilkinson was charged with driving a motor car past a stationary tramcar on the wrong side of Lower High street.—Senior-sergeant Malhieson staled that a tramcar was standing in front of the Exchange, and people were waiting to board it, when defendant came along and forced his way through the crowd. —Defendant was fined 3Ds and costs (7s). Maintenance.-—Henry Michael Harwood was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for failing to comply with ati order for maintenance, defendant to be released on payment of arrears amounting to £l6 17s 6d. John Higgins was charged with disobeying an order for maintenance the arrears accrued amounting to £l4 10s 8d. — Defendant was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment the warrant, to remain suspended on defendant paying 5s a week off the arrears and 55s a week under the order. Arthur Ernest Ede who had fallen into arrears in connection with a maintenance order to the extent of £343 2s 3d had the arrears reduced to £SO and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment the warrant to remain suspended so long as he paid 55s a week.—John Cummick M‘Lean was also brought before the court for non-compliance with an order for maintenance the arrears amounting to £l3 7s. Defendant was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant, to be suspended on payment of 25s a week under the order, and 5s a week off the arrears. Archibald Stewart, who did not appear, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment in respect to a maintenance order issued at Otautau, the arrears under which totalled £l3 13s 4d, the warrant to be suspended on payment of the arrears. David M’Donald was proceeded against on a similar charge, the arrears amounting to £l6 Bs.—Defendant was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided he paid 35s a week off the arrears.
