BEACON FOR AEROPLANES
GREAT FRENCH LIGHTHOUSE. VISIBILITY OF 600 MILES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, April 20. A thousand million candle-power revolving lighthouse at Mont Afrique (near Dijon) was lighted for the first time. It is intended to assist the aeroplane service between Paris and Algiers. When the weather is clear its rays will be visible within a radius of 500 miles, including Brussels, Dieppe, Lille, Milan, and Frankfurt. Tlie lighthouse cost 1,500,000 francs, and it is 17 times more brilliant than the 60,000,000 candle-power lighthouse at New Jersey.—A. and N.Z. Cable,
FIRST OF A SERIES. PARIS, April 20. (Received April 21, at 5.5 p.m.) The lighthouse which stands on tlio outskirts of Dijon at the top of a hill 1800 ft high is the first of a series. It flashes every five seconds. A similar lighthouse is being built outside Paris.— The Times.
