DUNEDIN HOSPITAL GUILD
ANNUAL REPORT. The following aro extracts from the annual report of the Dunedin Hospital Guild, which will be submitted to the annual meeting to-morrow afternoon. Owing to the fact that only 10 meetings instead of 12 were held, the output of garments was somewhat smaller than for the previous years. The attendance at the meeting averaged 40, and the largest meeting was on July 10, when 49 members were present. The membership stands at 160. The total number of garments made during the year was 243. Owing to a change in the regime of the Hospital, delay was occasioned with the requisition for the children's ward, so that time did not permit of the list being completed. Forty garments, however, were sent, and comprise the following:—18 pairs of bath slippers, four dressing gowns, and 18 dressing jackets. The garments sent to the matron of the James Powell Rest. Home for use of the inmates consisted of the following:— 32 vests, eight pairs of knickers, 70 night dresses, 11 pairs of bloomers, six pairs of slippers six face cloths, and some wool. The following extract from a letter received from Mr F. G. Gumming is of special interest: —"I feel it is my duty to write a few lines to you in connection with the magnificent work that is done by the guild. I can assure you that my committee is more than grateful for your kindly effort in providing garments for those who are needy when leaving the Hospital or the James Powell Rest Home. I think I cannot do better than "ive you the actual words of the jwragraph appearing in the annual report of the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society. Hospital Guild.—lt is my pleasing duty to report that tho guild made 243 garments during last year. These are mostly sent to the James Powell Rest Home, and are distributed by the matron to the need- patients. I can assure the committee and the public that the work of the guild canont be too highly appreciated. Mrs M'Gill feels that she is honoured in serving tho guild as their distributing agent. 1 am in a position to state that ther, o garments are distributed most conscientiously and in keeping with tha wishes of your guild, and that, tho women who receive them are extremely grateful, and many a "ihank you' is oxpressed for the gifts." As the guild was over-stocked with pyjama girdles, they were ottered for sale to tho members, and with the proceeds it is hoped to secure a tea service for the use of the guild. There is still a large number of girdles on hand, which members may obtain on application to any of the committee. Mrs Jacobs, a very valued member, who has been invalided for some time, is now quite restored to health. The year opened with a credit balance of £4l 9s 3d, the total receipts amounting to £l6O 3s 10d, and the expenditure to £l6O 8s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £4l 4s 3d. A number of subscriptions are still outstanding.
