Tho races for tho Sanders Clip wero strenuous, especially tho second race, which was really worth going many miles to see. They would h-nvo read a very fine description ot tho races in the Daily Times, and ho wished to acknowledge their indebtedness to tho press for the reports telegraphed fom Auckland. Mr Waters referred to tho probable racing here next year of a six-metro class of yacht, and concluded with a further tribute to tho winners of the Sanders Cup. Mr Watson said the gathering that evening was promoted for the express purpose of meeting ktr Wiseman and congratulating him. Most ot them had known Mr Wiseman from his childhood. Ho was an exemplary citizen. His specialty was yachting and boating, and ho had now won great credit for himself and honour for Otago. Ho and his crow, excepting Mr Kollett, were Port Chalmers boys, and they had •brought honour to their native town. Tho winning of the Sanders Cup was indeed a great feat. This was the second time Mr Wiseman had brought tho Sandora Cup to Otago.—(Applause.) Tho cup appropriately commemorated 'Lieutenant Sanders. Continuing. the Chairman* said it was pleasing* to see that so many sporting trophies wero coming to Dunedin. This would odd to tho attractiveness of the Exhibition. He had pleasure in handing 'Mr Wiseman a wallet. "This is not payment,” said Mr Watson, “it is simply an expression of goodwill.”—(Applause.) Mr Wieoman had made a name for himself far beyond Otago. Ho wished him many years of yachting yet to come.—(Applause.) Mr Wiseman, on rising to respond, was loudly applauded. Ho thanked them far tho receotion mid for honouring his crew. When he left Port Chalmers for Auckland his solo aim was the winning of the Sanders Cup. With tho assistance of his first-class crew, ho was successful. He wished to thank the Otago Yacht and Motor Bout Association. He represented the members ot the association there before their arrival. The first race for the Cup was a feeler, and they found out that tho lona was capable of holding her own with any of her rivals Mr Kellelt was his right-hand man, and took the holm in one race at his request. Owing to Mr Francis’s good service as a masseur, Mr Wiseman said ho was kept fit and did not require* again to call on Mr Kellott. Tho party at Auckland was a very harmonious oue and this helped in tho winning of tho Cup. Masters Harry Hooves ana KaJph Ham wero very useful and tho manner in which they kept tho lona in trim was very creditable. The lona was the beat polished competitor next to Queen March. Mr Wiseman concluded by again acknowledging his giratiitude for messages of congratulation and the reception given to him and his crew, —(Applause, and the singing of ‘‘Ho is a Jolly Good Fellow.") Mr Kellctt, Mr Percy, and Mr Wright also responded. Mr T.
