SAILORS AND CRICKET.
MATCH AGAINST HARBOUR BOARD. Teams from H.M.S. Veronica and the Harbour Board met on the Oval on Thursday afternoon, when the men-o’-warsmen secured a first innings victory. The Veronica’s men compiled 88 in their first strike (Seaman Everett 40, Lieutenant Lauo 21, Lioutanant Oresswell 12). In their second effort the warship’s men compiled 22 for the loss of two wickets. The Harbour Board team gave a poor batting display, compiling only 31 (Gould 9 and Holley 7 beating the top-scoiers). In their second innings Harbour Board did much better, as their tally was 80 (W. J. Bardsley 18 and Gardiner 11). Everett proved himself a good all-round cricketer. His score included three sixes and two fours. Lieutenant Lane’s score included three fours, and Lieutenant Cress-well's two fours. Seaman Everett played havoc with the Harbour Board’s wickets, taking four for 15, while Wireless Telegraphist Hancock secured two for none, and Lieutenant Cresswell three for 10. Gould and Dyson were the most successful bowlers for Harbour Board, the former taking seven wickets for 26, and Dyson three for 17.
