Dunedin will shortly gain an acquisition in tha -way of an expert Highland dancer, who arrived by the Oorinthic on Wednesday (says tho New Zealand Times). Ho is Mr J. M. Kinghorn, M.A., of Aberdeen, Scotland, who intends making his permanent home in the dominion. Ho will bo going to Dunedin about tiro end ol tho month, but in the meantime intends to compete at tho Highland gatherings at Dannovirko next Wednesday, Taihape on the 24, Jttuntervillo January 28, Taranaki January 31, and Wanganui on February 4. The principal events in which ho will compete will bo tire Highland ding, sword dance, soann truibhais, and Highland reel, Irish jig, and tho sailors’ hornpipe. Mr Kinghorn ig in tho first flight of dancers from tho Old Country, slurring honours Last season with Sydney Black and Cuthbortson. Ho won several champion* sir ip cups and medals, competing at such gatherings as Inverness, Bracinar, Aboyno, Kirkcaldy, Aborleidy, and Bridge of Allan. Mir Kinghorn was mathematical teacher at Cullen Academy, Aberdeenshire. Eight thousand article* ranging from a pair of crutches to a Colt revolver, have been dealt -with by tha railway lost property office at Wembley. Tha expenses of tho 1446 candidates of last year's general election in Britain totalled nearly a million sterling, or rather moio than ]s 4d a vote.
