(Received Nov. 28, at 10.40 p.m.) The Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and South Australia has commenced in fine weather and op a perfect wicket. New South Wales won the toss and batted, and have lost four wickets for 312 runs (Rock 127, Andrews 99, Kippax 21 not out, HatclifFe 29) Rock opened the innings and batted confidently, scoring at a fast rate. He _ gave one chance, but played delightful cricket, a feature of his innings being his driving, which frequently rattled the palings. Andrews batted vigorously and brightly, and his partnership with Rock put on 184. The South Australian fielding was not qp to standard, a s the men were suffering from the effects of the Melbourne match and the train journey.

ENGLISH TEAM IN SOUTH AFRICA. PRETORIA, November 27. (Received Nov. 28, at 7.30 p.m.) England, in their first innings, made 199 (Nicholas 54). Pretoria, in their second innings, have two down for 50. Rain caused an abandonment of play.—Router. Pretoria in their first innings made 255.
