PERSONAL.

Ministerial. The Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister of Labour and Mines) and Mr F. M. Sherwood (private secretary to the Minister) arrived In Dunedin by the express last night. The party will leave for Roxburgh by motor this afternoon, on route for Frankton Falla, near Queenstown, where the Minister will fire the first shot In connection with the opening of the Kawarau dam on Saturday. The Hon. O. Fowlds arrived in Dunedin from the north last night, and will proceed this afternoon to Invercargill. Mr H. D. W. Brewer returned on Tuesday afternoon from a visit to the North Island. The Mayor (Mr H. L. Tapley) is indisposed, and was unable to attend the meeting of the City Council last night. Mr J. C. Godfrey, secretary of the Marine Department, was a passenger from the north by last night’s express. Mr G. G. Bullock, who for over 20 years has been sub-editor of the Wanganui Herald, has resigned that position in order to join the staff of an Auckland newspaper. Mr A. Linley, touring manager of the Dixie Jubilee Singers, is at present in Dunedin in connection with the forthcoming season of that company. Mr W. 11. Simons, postmaster at Te Arohn, has retired on superannuation after 40 years’ continuous service. Mr Simons has seen service in practically all parts of the dominion. The llevs. Hector Maclean, B. J. Tipler, and G. H. Jupp, who have been attending the Presbyterian General Assembly at Palmerston North,, returned to Dunedin by the express last night. Mr C. G. Curtis, who has been manager of the Timaru branch of the Westport Coal Company for the past two and a-half years, has been appointed manager of the Christchurch branch in succession to the late Mr J. A. Boswell. Mr E. J. lies (engineer to the Kawarau Gold Mining Syndicate), Mr A. Whitley (local Inspector of Mines), and Mr H. Thompson (private secretary to the Hon. W. Downie Stewart) will leave by motor for Roxburgh this afternoon, en route to Frankton Falls, for the opening ceremony at the Kawarau Dam on Saturday. Messrs W. R. Hayward and Arthur Barnett, two of the directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company, addressed a meeting in Blenheim on Tuesday, and left later for Nelson. Prom Nelson they will proceed to Christchurch via the West Coast, and will reach Christchurch on Saturday evening. Lieutenant-colonel C. Hickson, of the Victorian Defence Forces, son of a former resident magistrate at Naseby and the West Coast, arrived at Bluff by the Moeraki (reports our Invercargill correspondent), and will be in Dunedin in a few days’ time. The Rev. J. 11. Rogers has been appointed vicar of St. Martin’s, North-east Valley. At the recent sitting of Synod the status of St. Martin’s was raised from (hat of a parochial district to a parish, ana Mr Rogers, who had charge of the district, has been appointed the first vicar of the parish. '■ 1 ' Ratu Deve Toguivahi, the Fijian chief, and his son, Ratu George, after spending three days in Dunedin, left by yesterday’s express for the north. They are proceeding to Wanganui, and will spend the rest of the month visiting the numerous river scenic resorts. Later they will proceed to Rotorua and Auckland. They intend to leave the northern city in the first week in January on their return to Fiji.
