EARLY CIVILISATION
FINDS IN INDIA AND MESOPOTAMIA. CITIES OF' 5000 YEARS AGO. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyrigu*. DELHI, November 18. Sir John Marshall, Director of the General Archaeological Survey of India, has published definite conclusions regarding the discoveries of an ancient civilisation in the Punjab and Sind. Sir John Marshall states that 5000 years ago the peoples of Sind and Mesopotamia were living in well-ordered cities. They were - in possession of a high standard of art craftsmanship and had developed a system of writing. The sites of the discoveries are at Harafa (Punjab) and Mohenjodare (Mesopotamia). The finds include brick houses, temples, water conduits, crockery, toys, coins, and a number of important inscribed seals. It has been established that .the antiquities are closely connected with the Sumerian race in Southern Mesopotamia, and date from the third and fourth millennium before Christ. Sir John Marshall says that it is impossible to exaggerate the importance of the finds, which at present indicate tho birth of tho Sumerian civilisation in North India. —Sydney Sun Cable.
