Mr C. M. Luke, of Wellington, is one of that city’s prominent and best citizens, much respected by all who know him (says the Kltham Argus). From a recent edition of “Who’s Who in Now Zealand,” some interesting information may bo gleaned concerning the worthy Wellingtonian. For instance it may bo discovered that ho was born in Penzance, Cornwall, in 1875, and was married in IB£o. What a precocious child “Charles,” as his friends call him, must have been. But, not satisfied with distinguishing' himself in this manner, it is stated that he arrived in Now Zealand in 1874. What a wonderful career; married at five years and arrived in New Zealand a year before he was born ! The general respect in which Mr Luke is held will be intensified by the publication of the above particulars. From the same publication we learn that Mr A. E. Lowe, C.M.G., Clerk of Parliament, was bom in 1816, so he is now 108 years old. His friends are congratulating him upon carrying his years so well. Four hundred thousand pounds' worth of sugar is made into sweets every Week in England.
