The dispute on the Kawatiri at Newcastle has been settled, a compromise having been arranged between the Union Company and the Seamen’s Union, as a result of which the 12 seamen who were imprisoned have been released and placed aboard the vessel. It is understood that the company has agreed to pay three additional members of the crew Australian rates instead of engaging them under the New Zealand award. The Kawatiri is scheduled to sail today. She will load at Port Stephens for New Zealand.
