- : OPENING OF SEASON. GRANGE CLUB. There was a large gathering at the North Ground on Saturday for tho opening of the Grange Cricket Club’s season. It was officially opened by Mr O. E. Briggs, president of the club, who, after commenting on the club’s success last season, wished the members ogpry success. A number of new members were present, and judging by the enthusiasm which was shown in the. first practice the coming season should bo a very satisfactory one. Afternoon tea was provided. DUNEDIN CLUB. The Dunedin Club opened the season at tho Oval, when a team comprising several past players, captained by W. Mackersey, met a team captained by R. Torrance. An enjoyable game ended in a win for the latter side by 67 runs. Lady supporters of tho club provided afternoon tea. During the tea adjournment, Mr W. Mackersey presented the M’Lean cup to R. Torrance, who secured the highest batting average in the club last season, and B. Retre, a member of the second eleven, received a bat given by the Stirling Ironmongery for the best all-round player. Following are scores in the Past v. Present game:—Past team: Latlimer 3, Braham 1, Davenport 5, Otto 4, Fairmaid 3, Booth 9, Mackersey 5, M‘Carten 8, M‘Kenrie 2, Thompson 6, Fielden 2 not out; total, 54. Present team: Bennett 12, Robson 0, Symnionds 6, Knights 20, Casey 20, Torrance 31, Baker 2, Strang 20 not, out, Cherry 10; total, 121. For the winners Strang secured four wickets for 10 runs and Torrance four for 17. M‘Carten {three fer 9) bowled best for the losers, ALBION CLUB. The official opening of the Albion Club’s season was attended by a largo number oi members and lady visitors. The season was opened by the president (Mr J. J. Clark), who mentioned that this was the 60th anniversary of tho club, and that there were still in Dunedin several of those who played in the club’s first match. Afternoon tea was handed round, and the club members took part in a practice.
