Mr W. N. Gillies (Secretary for Agriculture and Stock) stated that the yearly income from the sale of opossum' skins from 1917 to 1923 amounted to £300,000. It was proposed to charge a royalty of Id per skin. TTie Minister added that this source of wealth was practically equal to the gold yield.
