KELSO A. AND P. ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the Kelso A. and P. Association was held last week, when the president (Mr Ussher) occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the President explained that since the balance sheet had been printed subscriptions amounting to £37 had been collected, and the actual balance was in the vicinity of £56. The other amounts outstanding were all collectable. —The motion was seconded by Mr Alex. Thomson, and carried. „ The correspondence included promises of trophies comprising a silver rose bowl, cup valued £lO 10s, cup valued £IS 15s, cup valued £5 ss, and lady’s handbag, for which the president expressed thanks to the supporters of the association. The Retiring President thanked the committee and members for the very hearty suppart they had given him during the past year. They had had a good show, and he believed they would have oven a better one this year, as the way had been paved for some new exhibitors. Ho specially thanked the secretary (Mr Foster) for his valuable support. He had much pleasure in proposing Mr A. Edie as president for the ensuing year, and was sure he would find it an easier task than he thought, with a strong committee behind him. Mr Edie thanked the members for electing him to the position of president, and congratulated Mr Ussher on his untiring efforts for the good of the association. The fact that he had attended every meeting showed that his whole heart was in the work. Mr. A. S. Herbert said they all regretted that Mr Foster was not feeling fit enough to carry on the duties of secrctai-y. He had much pleasure in moving that he be elected vice-president for the ensuing year.—This was seconded by Mr Ussher, and carried unanimously. On the motion of Messrs Foster and Ussher, Mn H. King (Heriot) was elected to the position of secretary. The following office-bearers were appointed; —Auditors, Messrs W. Dunnet and F. Ussher; committee —Messrs C. W. Body, J Pullar, J. Black, jun., J. F. Herbert, J. G. Park, R. H. Edie, F. Ussher, J. M'Giliv'ray, A. Mackay, and ti. Risk (all re-elected). On the motion of Messrs W. Kirk and Jaa Sim, the date of the show was fixed for Wednesday., November 5. Mr W. Kirk moved, in accordance with notice of motion —“That all purebred cattle competing at the show require to be registered in their Herd Book before being eligible.” The mover pointed out that from observation it was hard to discriminate between a purebred and a crossbred, and he instanced cases. It appeared to him that those who went to the expense of breeding purebred cattle should be safeguarded by registration.—Mr W. Edwards seconded the motion. —Messrs A. Thomson, Jas. Jenkins, and J. M'Gillivray expressed the opinion that it would moan a loss of entries, although it applied to all stock it might be a benefit.—Mr Kirk said he did not wish to press his motion, and had brought the matter up with the view of getting an expression of opinion. The motion was withdrawn. At the close of the annual meeting the committee met and nominated judges and appointed attending members, after which an adjournment was mode until Saturday evening, to revise the prize schedule.
