Rich though the dominion is in real, it imported supplies of that commodity during the first seven months of the current year to the value of half a million sterling, this figure representing a heavy advance on the corresponding total for 1923. While the character of the imports of a country is not accorded any general significance as a guide to the character of the inhabitants, it necessarily reflects more or less their standard of living -*nd their ability to indulge in the comforts and luxuries of existence. Possibly moat intelligent schoolboys could answer correctly a question as to the imported product, upon which the people of the dominion are content to pay their heaviest annual reckoning.
