September l ’!!.--'-’- To-day was off day in the New ZeklaiiJ-'-golf championship tournament, and the'oiily event played at Middlemore was a stroke - handicap for amateurs. This waa won bv - W. Bart'ett (Auckland) resulted in a win 7 for the former by two strokes over sis holes, , aftep a round of 18 holes had proved in- , decisive. To-morrow the semi-finals of the amateur ~, championship will be played, L. Quin (Eltham) meeting G. F. Gunson (Auckland) " ;b and H. B. Lusk (Auckland) playing J. -Goss (Wanganui, the defender of the title). The (Inal of the professional championship between E. J. Moss (Auckland) and J. MTbtosh (Hutt) will be played over 36 boles, . Considerable interest is being taken in the 1 test match between the ladies and the men to be played at Middlemore during the com r ing week-end. The following will form the ladies’ team; Mies Eva Brown (Napier), Mrs Slack (Thames), Miss Payton (Auckland). Mrs Blythe (Hamilton), Miss Aycheson (Nelson), Miss Snodgrass (Rotorua), Mias Jervis (Hutt), Mrs Wagg (Hutt), and Miss Bell (Welling- ' .ton). The eight players who competed in the third round of the amateur championship have been asked to play for the men, and' another will be selected. The ladies will play • from their own tees, and will play against l the men on the relative handicaps, the ladies having one additional stroke owing to theirpar being 78 and the men’s bogey 77. - : ■.= TOURNAMENT AT WANGANUI.
