For the third time this season Poverty Bav stalled off the challengers for the' Nordon Hookey Cup, beating Wairoa to-day after a fast and interesting game by 1 goal to nil. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP GDP. (Peat United Press Association.) - NELSON, September 11. At the dinner tendered the Champion Southland ladies’ hockey team last evening by Mr H, R. Duncan (patron of the Nelson Association), Mr S. Kirkpatrick (president) ■ | announced that ho would give a 50-gninea silver cup, to be called the K. Cnp, in place of the present one, which was already filled with winners’ names. . ' OTAGO LADIES’ ASSOCIATION. v A meeting of the Otago Ladies’ Hockey Associatiin was held on Monday _ night, when Mrs Nelson occupied the chair. The , secretary stated that the Southland, Associated had advised that it would play in Dunedin on Saturday on its return from the 'north: also that she had applied for the use of the Caledonian Ground for the match. The action was approved, and it was agreed to charge one shilling for tbe gate. If the Caledonian Ground were not available, the match, would be on the oval. After discussion, it was decided to make the presentation of ■ cups - and banners won this year on September 17. Miss White, manager of the team which toured Central Otago, submitted her report, which stated that the team gatfe a very good display of the game, more particularly in tli© first three games. In the fourth game th© players were all suffering from continuous 'travelling, playing, and entertainment, but, though they had lost some of the dash shown in the early > matches, they were more than able to hold their own. Otago won al! four matches, which were played against Tnapeka at Roxburgh, South Vincent a-t Alexandra, North Vincent at Cromwell, and f Vincent County. ■ • Miss Dewar, manager of the junior team to Middlemarch, also reported a successful game, won by 4 goals to 1. The team did not show combination, but gave a good exhibition of hookey, which, would stimulate the interest in country players.
