PLUMBERS' APPRENTICES.
ARBITRATION COURT DISCUSSION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, September 11. “ We have always understood it is infra dig for a journeyman plumber to go out without a boy,” observed Mr Justice Frazer in the Arbitration Court yesterday when matters affecting plumbers’ apprentices were under discussion. Mr Clarke, for the union, replied that the information was not correct, as there were some plumbing shops without apprentices. At a later stage of the case Mr Young a plumber who had just completed his apprenticeship, said that for 21 years of his apprenticeship he was sent out to jobs ” on his own.” His Honor remarked that the formation of apprentices’ committees should prevent that sort of thing. Saturday evening and Sunday were mentioned as the only times that -were suitable fbr a conference between the employers and employees in questions affecting apprentices. Mr Dickson, for the employers, was rather doubtful about meeting on a Sunday. Mr Justice Frazer mentioned that the court had done it on several occasions. /"Far bq it from me,” he added, "to ( suggest that you should depart from the paths of virtue.”
