CABINET DISSENSIONS
MR SNOWDEN’S ATTITUDE. EARLY ELECTION FORECASTED. LONDON, August 24 Reynold’s Sunday newspaper states that ■i. 0 f the opinion that the controversy Sateen Prime Minister Mr MacDonald, and the Chancellor of the Lxcheuuer, Mr Philip Snowden, winch was tho^result of Mr MacDonald’s intervention in the negotiations that brought alxmt the agreements with Ru f m has c«nsiderablv advanced the date of the ne. "erieral election. Mr MacDonald has practically determined to appeal to the country in the second week m December. Tim Observer, discussing the tnction, says that there is lack of normal contact between Mr MacDonald and his colleagues because Mr MacDonald is overburdened with the. offices of Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary. Cabinet meetings are fewer" than under former regimes. Mr Snowden believes that Mr MacDonald does not consult him sufficiently, while Mr MacDonald’s friends think diat Mr Snowden sees too much of Mr L.oyd George. • Their homes m Surrey are adjacent, Some Labour members believe that Mr Snowden would like to make a working agreement with _ the ll *rals. Most Labour followers reject and abhor th Mr Lloyd George’s friendliness in the House of Commons towards Mr Snowden, and his hostility towards Mr MacDonald, are so marked that Mr Snowden, by further separate manifestos, would only rum himself with his own party. Nevertheless, ho probably feels that ony by dropping a bombshell can he call Mr MacDonald’s attention to the fact that (mate collective consultation is a vital element in collective Cabinet responsibility. ______________
