CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

Th efollowing clauses arc extracted from the committee reports to he submitted to the meeting of the City Council on Wednesday evening:— The Reserves Committee reports that applications from the Young Women’s Christian Association and the St. Peter’s Church Young Pupils’ Clnb for permission to construct tenuis courts at Bathgate Park have been granted on the usual conditions—namely, payment of a rental of £2 10s per court per annum after the first year. Four courts are required by the two applicants, and the sites will be marked off by the superintendent of reserves on the ground. An application from the Exhibition Company for the reserves department to undertake the work of grassing the recreation area on the Exhibition Ground has been granted—the cost of the work to be borne by the Exhibition Company. One application for permission to sell ices and sweets in the Woodhangh Gardens has been granted on payment of a fee of 10s, and subject to site of stall being approved by the superintendent of reserves. The Works Committee recommends that the offer of the Neuchatel Asphalt Company to supply to the council a further quantity of GSO tons of Trinidad natural lake asphalt at the reduced price of £lO 7s Od per ton delivered, all charges paid, into the corporation depot, Ward street, be accepted. The price of 350 tons of asphalt already ordered was £l2 Is 8d net for the asphalt and flux combined. The Tramways Committee reports that a letter has been received from the Leith Amenities Society on the subject of the suggested bus service to Woodhangh. The writers have been advised that the proposal will be given due consideration when tnt. matter of bus routes is being dealt with. The, Gas Committee reports that the gas engineer reports that the present meterhouse has about reached the end of its life, and that it is too small to contain the new meter which has been ordered from Home. The engineer has accordingly been authorised to proceed with the work of putting in the foundations for a now meter-house by day labour. The matter of the erection of the walls and roof will be dealt with later.
