CANALS ON MARS
THE NOTION EXPLODED. Association —By Telegraph —Copyright. SAN FRANCISCO, September 6. (Received Sept. 4, at 10.25 p.m.) A telegram from San Jose says that Professor R. G. Sitken, assistant director of the Lick Observatory, commenting on the markings on Mars as evidence of life, said that to be visible to astronomers on this earth these markings would have to be 50 to 100 miles wide. Hence the notion that they were canals such as were built ou this earth was absurd.— Reuter.
