CONDITIONS IN SUDAN
SITUATION APPARENTLY IN HAND. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 19. (Received August 20, at 9.5 p.m.) The report that martial law lias been proclaimed at Port Sudan is so far unconfirmed. It is pointed out that the Anglo- Egyptian convention of 1899 provided that the Sudan should remain under martial law until it was otherwise determined. This provision, so far as is ascertainable, has not been cancelled. Four fighting aeroplanes arrived a.t Khartoum this morning, and four others are remaining at Bara. Nine arrests were made at Port Sudan yesterday in connection with minor disturbances which the police easily controlled. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
