There were several pens of very prime cattle forward, but the bulk of the entry was of medium quality, with a few pens of light and unfinished sorts. Several outside buyers were operating, and owing to this competition and the shortness of the supply a decoded rise took place. All classes may lie quoted at 30s per head in excess of last week’s parity. .Fat. Sheep. - -There was a medium yarding of 2071. A big percentage of the entry comprised heavy weight wethers, a few pens being of outstanding quality. The sale was slightly erratic, but prices for heavy weight sheep remained firm at late rates. 'There were several country butchers operating, and in consequence prices for medium and light weight wethers anti owes showed an increase of about Is per head on last week’s market. Extra prime heavy weight wethers 58s 3d to 645; prime heavy weight from 50s 6d to Sos 9d ; medium from 41s to 46s 6d; lighter kinds from 30s upwards. The non-holding of the sale during National Week shortened the supplies held by butchers. There was a keen sale for all classes of stock. Store Sheep.—There was a moderatesized entry and a keener sale than for some weeks. Wethers were from 2s to 3s better than at the last sale, and ewes up to 3s. Hoggets improved by Is to 2s per head. Forward four, six, eight-tooth halfbred wethers 38s 6d to 39s Id, four, six, and eight-tooth halfbred wethers 35s to 37s Id, good forward two and four-tooth halfbred wethers 395, sound and failingmouth halfbred wethers 27s (id to 335, good halfbred wether, hoggets 20s 9d to 27s 2d, halfbred wether hoggets 25s Gd, mixed sex three-quarter-bred hoggets 25s lOd to 28s 4d. four, six, and eight-tooth crossbred ewes 32s to 355, four, six, eight-tooth halfbred ewes 34s 9d, good conditioned aged halfbred ewes 28s lOd to 32s 4d, low-cou-ditioned aged halfbred owes 21s 9d to 255, aged merino ewes 12s to 20s (id. Fat Cattle. —There was a small yarding of 345 head. A few small lines of holdover North felaml cattle were included, otherwise the entry was of Canterbury stuff. In spite of the excess entry market values were up by £2 to £2 10s per head, and in cases of specially good beef up to 42s a 10011) was paid. Vealers. —There was a fair-sized entry, and the quality was indifferent. Good stuff sold at about late rates, hut there was no demand for inferior.
