ROYAL COLONIAL INSTITUTE.

ANNUAL RECEPTION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, July 2. One of the annual functions in London to which visitors from all the dominionss look forward with the greatest interest is the reception of the Royal Colonial Institute. This took place, as usual, on June 24, in rho spacious galleries of the Natura l History Museum, South Kensington. The guests, who numbered over 2000, were representative of practically every part of his Majesty’s dominions. They were received by a number of members of the council, including Sir Charles AFLeod, Sir C. Kinloch-Cooke, Sir Hugh Denison, Sir Godfrey Lagden, Sir James Mills, Admiral Sir Edmund Fremantle, the Earl of Liverpool, the Fail of Meath, Viscount Sandon, Lord Lamington, Lord Morris, Sir H. Leggett, Sir Charles Lucas, and Mr G. AI. Boughey (secretary). The main hall was beautifully decorated with flowers, and there was, as there always is, plenty of interest and variety to suit all tastes. In the main hall the band of the Grenadier Guards played a very attractive selection of music, under the direction of Lieutenant G. Miller. L.R.A.M. At tho concert, which was held in the Reptile Gallery under tho direction of Mr P. Mavon-Ibbs, the singers included : Mme. Clara Serena (South Australia), Miss Winifred Small and Miss Garda Hall (South Africa), Mr A. E. Y. Henham (New South Bales), Mr Sterndalc Bennett, and Air Browning-Mummery. Each of tho singers had a decidedly cordial reception, and the programme arranged was a very attractive one. Mr Roy Alellish and Air Mavon-Ibbs wore the accompanists. Tho council received its guests from 8.30 to 10 p.im, and the scene was a very ani* mated one, orders aaid decorations were tin* rule, and the Indian guests were in tneir picturesque native costumes, while the dresses and jewels of the ladies added greatly to tho brilliancy of tho whole gathering. Viscount Lascelles' present and made himself very popular with the delegation of Scouts from Australia, who are here for tho Jamboree at Vv embley. He remained until tho National Anthem was the signal for all to leave, and he appeared to be having a very pleasant time.
