RUGBY FOOTBALL.
OTAGO RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the Committee of the Otago Rugby’ Union was held test night. 'The president (Mr H, H. & White) occupied the chair. It was decided to present caps to the boys selected to play in the Primary Schools’ tournament at Invercargill. AHanna was appointed manager of the teamg CHARITY MATCH. ’‘ ’ The Secretary reported that the gross gate receipts from the charity match, played at Carishrook on Saturday amounted _to £387 11s lid. The amount far distribution came to £362 8s Sd. ‘ It was decided to allot the money as follows:—Salvation Army, £B9 8a 8d; St. John Ambulance Association, £7O ;, Patients and _ Prisonera’ Aid Society, £3sMen’s Mission, £35; Presbyterian Social Service, £35; St. Vincent de Paul, £3s’; Anglican Boys’ Home, £35; Wesleyan Social Service. £lB. ■ b , THE COMMITTEE SUPPORTED/'' J. Walker, hon. secretary of the Alhambra Football Club, wrote stating ~that ,the following motion had been passedbyhi* club;—“’That the Otago Football Union’s attitude in regard to the League , be; endorsed ; that, playing under thecode; of amateur football, we approve of. its action, in retaining the grounds under iL.jurjadintion,”—Noted. ■ JUNIOR COMPETITIONS. ~ ‘; Mr Styohe, chairman of the Flag Committee, skid that the position of the SetSMid Grade competition was unchanged. . There were two teams at the top of the competition—Pirates and Port Chalmers. Port had still to meet Kaikorai, if necessary.—> The committee recommended that the'TWt Chalmers and Pirates Clubs play', off'.Tn the final as a curtain-raiser to the match at Carishrook on August 30. —The recommendation wa« approved. //■/.;■ Southern A (28 points) were declared the winners of the Third Grade competition. The next team on the list is Alhambra. (23 points). It was decided to send the Southern A team to Balclutha to ptey against) 'the South Otago junior representatives at. a date to be arranged. j Southern (23 points) were declared, the winners of the Fourth Grade competition. The next teams on the list are Port Chklmers (18 points), Zingaxi-Richmdnd (17 points), and Pirates (17 points). The Dunedin Club (23 points) were, declared the winners of the Fifth Grad® competition. The next teams are Alhambra (18 points) and Zingari-Richmond (18 points). Mr Styohe staled that in the President's Grade High School E (17 points) had played 10 matches and Southern (IS points)., had played 12 matches. Then, came "PlrAtea (14 points), Dunedin (14 points), and .Zin-gari-Richmond (14 points) I .—lt was decided to declare the High School E team, winner® of the competition. GOLDFIELDS MATCHES, , v It was decided to notify the respective sub-unions that the union was prepared, to send an Otago team to play at Roxburgh on September 4 and at Clyde’ or Alexandra on September 6. STATING THE POSITION. H. E. Combs, secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union, wrote stating that Any reinstated or readmitted players should, be advised that should they again play League football no further application for reinstatement or readmission would be considered. Mr Harris said that an advertisement had been published in the press asking for players to join up under the League code. He thought those players who wore jnclined to leave the Union game and play League should realise that they woald h«ya little chance of playing the Union .game again. There was no doubt that saroe.’of their players would leave them, and certain of these players they would be well xid of. There might, however, be young players who might be led away by promises. These should thoroughly understand the position. The- motion was then put and carried unanimously. THE OTAGO FLAYERS. The following hoys have been soletted to represent Otago in the primary schools’ tournament at Invercargill: Forwards: Slatham (Arthur Street). Wilson (High Street), Flockton (Forbury). Ross (Maori Hill), Walker (Macandrew .Road), Parsons (Christian Brothers). Oonradi/St. Clair), Hanson (Tokomairiro District High), Buswell (North-East Valley). Douglas (Macandrew Road), Proctor (Macandrew Road). Backs: Fraser (Caversham), Moloney (High Street), Trevathan (Macandrew Road), Oottam (High Street), Henderson (High Street), Piokerill (Ravensboumc), Inglia (Macandrew Road), Sinclair (Albany Street), Gillies (Forbury). There- will be a practice this aftemopn on the Oval at 3.50, and on Thursday a match will be played on the Caledon ten. at 3.30 against a team from the High School. MANIOTOTO DEFEATS WAIHEMO. Perfect spring weather prevailed at Naseby on Saturday, when the representative toanm of the Maniototo and Waiheino Counties met. The game was .fast, arid afforded a good spectacle, finishing in favour of Maniototo by 8 points to/nil. The Naaeby Band i/ayod several limes during the intervals or the game. STOCK AGENTS AT PLAY. The annual match between the National Mortgage and a combined team (Otago Farmers, Stronach, Morris, and Murray, Roberts) will be played at Tahuna Park on Thursday.
