(Received August 15, at 5.5 p.m.) Before a record crowd Willard beat the Soutli African champion Raymond b —4, 5—7, 6—4, 6—7, 6—4, thus repeating his Paris success. The court was soddened, and both men wore spikes. This game counts in ,the international contests. Bayley and Willard beat the South African pair, Raymond and Condon, in an international match. The Australians played their best doubles so far, giving their first glimpse of the combination which is necessary for victory. The result of the 400 metres free style swim were -aa follows:—First Heat—• Henry (Australia) 1, Foy (England) 2. Time, 6min 28 2-ssec. Second Heat— Chariton (Australia) 1, Christie (Australia) 2. Time, smin 48sec.

The .final of the 100 metres backstroke resulted: Henry 1, Benson (Ireland) 2. Time, Imin 28sec.

Tho final of the 200 metres breaststroke race resulted: Steadman 1, Heard (New Zealand) 2, Benson (Ireland) 3. . Time, 3min 12sec. In the pole vault Winter (Australia) was fourth.

In the 1000 metres cycle race Broadbent was beaten in his heat. He waited till tho last 100 yards, and then recovered several yards, but was beaten on the tape. He did not. qualify. Eamsden qualified for the final, but when in a good position his chain came off. Duigan threw the javelin 154 ft 7in, which placed him third. The long jump was nob finished till nearly 10 o’clock, the lumping being held in darkness. The event provided a surprise in a remarkable peri forraance by Honner. Though the takeoff board was almost indistinguishable, his jump registered 23ft 7£in, beating by half an inch the American Legendre, who bolds the record gained at tho Olympic Games.
