(Received August 14, at 10.10 p.m.) Chief Interest centred in the meeting between Carr, and Scholz, which was somewhat disappointing, as ' Carr was obviously outclassed over this distance. Scholz caught him at 60 metres and made a characteristic dashing finish. Scholz’s time was doubted, but after a re-measure-ment it was declared to be correct. Nevertheless there were many doubters that a world’s record could be broken on a rain-sodden grass track. It is believed that the time will not be officially recognised. The 200 metres swim provided a terrific struggle between Charlton and Henry, which the former won by a touch only. In the 200 metres breaststroke swim Heard (New Zealand) and Benson (Ireland) deadheated in their heat. Miss Shand won her heat in the women’s 400 metres free style in lOroin 42 2-15 sec.—A. and N.Z.
