MEETING OF FARMERS. SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT. (Peb United Press Association.) MASTERTON, August. 13. Tho culmination of a quantity of correspondence appearing in th© local press concerning the unstable position of the beefgrowing industry in New Zealand was a meeting of farmers to-day, at which various opinions were expressed concerning tho possibilities of improving the industry. On the motion of Mr L T. Danicll, it was deckled that tho Meat Producers’ Board bo asked to estimate the amount of beef to be eaten annually in New Zealand to cope with the glut in beef; and, further, to issue monthly reports in various districts showing the percentage of meat eaten and the amount necessary to be eaten for the economic handling of the country’s resources. The mover stated that working on the figures of the Meat Board’s annua! report, if 5 per cent, more beef and 5 per cent, less mutton were eaten, the people would annually consume 12,680 more head of cattle and would save for expert no fewer than 110,970 sheep, besides permitting the further growth of wool.
