SERVICE FOILS CHAMPIONSHIP. The inter-Services foil championship was decided at Olympia (London) recently, writes a correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, and x’esulted in a win for .Lieutenant C. A. Kershaw, R.N., the Hugh) international, after a dose and exciting struggle. In addition to the eight winners of pools, six successful competitors from the schools of physical training appeared in the latter stages of the competition, and two preliminary pools of seven fencers each were held, in cadi of which the three leaders qualified for the hnai pool, krom pool one those who survived were Flight-Lieutenant F. G. Shernft, Quartermaster-Sergeant Instructor F. A. Peasnell, and Corporal P. J. Jerred, ana from pool two Captain E. G. Clarke, Lieutenant C. A. Kershaw, and Quarter-master-Sergeant Instructor G. A. P. Wyatt. Eca-h bout in the final pool was decided by the best of seven hits, and many oi them went their full length, so cvently matched were the opponents. Especially was this the case with regard to the three best fencers in the pool, Shorriff, Wyatt, and Kershaw. At the end of hk second series all three were undefeated, but in the third Sheriff beat Wyatt after a most exciting bout by four hits to three. Sherriff and Kershaw maintained their unbeaten record up to the final round, though Kershaw only just scraped through to three, and after being led by three hits to three, after being led by three hits to one.

The deciding fight between Kershaw and Sherrif! was equally close. Each scored in turn till Sherrif! led by three hits to two, but when Kershaw got in two hits in succession, the first with a riposte and the second with a stop hit at chest after simple disengagement, and so won the Inter-Service Championship and Cup. He also won tho foil championship of the Navy, Sherrif! gaining that of the R.A.F., Pcasnell that of the Royal Marines, ana Clark that of the Army.
