The United States Tennis Association has announced that the officials will carefully estimate the capabilities of the various American teams entered ior the National Doubles Championship in order to choose the doubles representatives for the Davis Cup team. Immediately after the championships they will be permitted to practise together continuously. The chief combinations will ho Johnston, and Griffin, the Kinsey brothers, and Williams and Washburn. The trench Davis Cup team will also participate in tho doubles and singles championships. The singles championships are attracting the attention of virtually every famous American and international player. Both championships will provo an effective test for the Australian team preliminary to both the final and challenge rounds for the Davis Cup. the Australians will meet Japan at Providence next week.—A. and N.Z. LONDON, August 10. Bayley (Australia) won the singles at the Hampshire championship meeting, defeating Fisher 6—4, 6—3. In the doubles Eames and Bomst beat Bayley and Willard 6—2, 6—4.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
