RUSSIA AND POLAND

THE FRONTIER RAIDS.

SERIOUS SITUATION DEVELOPS.

Pttg* Association —Bj Teleerrsipli—Copyright. LONDON, August 11. (Received August 11, at 10 p.m.) Advices from Riga state that Poland, following the Bolshevist bandits attacks on the Polish frontier, has strongly protested to the Soviet, demanding explanations and threatening to break off diplomatic relations in event of non-compli-ance. Meanwhile the Bolshevists have carried out further raids.—Sydney Sun Cable.

The Warsaw correspondent of Tire Times on August 6 said: —“A battle was fought between Russian bandits and Polish cavalry at Sto blec, on the Russian-Polish border. Hundreds of bandits, some wearing Soviet helmets, and armed with rifles and machine guns and bombs, attacked the Government offices, the police stations, and the public treasury, all of which wore looted. Telegraphs and telephones were destroyed, and the prisons raided and the prisoners released. Tire bandits posted sentries around the town. A battle resulted, seven cavalry being killed. The bandits apparently suffered no loss, though their escape to Russia is believed to be cut off. The Polish Cabinet feels helpless in the matter, as everybody knows that the Soviet encourages raids; but it is impossible to find proof. Tho raids are becoming increasingly frequent, and happen daily.”
