NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH SEAS EXHIBITION.

EDUCATION COURT PROPOSALS. APPROVED BY MINISTER OF EDUCATION. The following- is a copy of a letter -whieh has been received by Mr J. Wallace, chairnian of tho Education Committee of the Now Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company, from the Minister of Education (tho Hon. €. J. Parr); — “Dear Sir, —I lyivo to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of tho 22nd ultimo setting out the proposals of your committee with regard to an Education Court, at tho forthcoming Exhibition. I wish to express my eordial approval of the proposal, and hope that teachers and educational bodies generally will support you in your efforts to make this court one of tho finest features of tho Exhibition. , 1 would regard tho appointment of sub committees to prepare lists of exhibits and other activities to bo undertaken as one of the most important functions of your committee. In my opinion this work should be undertaken inrmediatoly, so that - schools may know at least a year in advance what may be regarded as suitable exhibits. It would be very undesirable if a heterogeneous collection of exhibits representing merely tho ide-a of individuals wore gathered into the Education Court to represent to visitors tho work of education in New Zealand. I hope, therefore, that your sub-committees will indicate as definitely as possible tho classes of exhibits the committee desires to receive. On the other hand, originality should bo provided for, and I suggest that there should bo one or two classes or groups set aside for original exhibits, or those not provided for in the definite classes outlined by the committee. Even here, however, it would bo wise for your committee to prescribe that those desiring to forward exhibits that do not come under the defined classes should send to the committee an application for the entry of their exhibit before tho preparation of it is commenced, If the committee approved, the exhibit could bo proceeded with, and if not much disappointment and wasted effort might be saved. The Education Department will assist in every possible way, and to 1 - a reasonable extent will be prepared to bring before tho teachers of the do. minion, through tho Education Gazette, any information your committee -would like to disseminate. I have no doubt that the New Zealand Educational Institute will give similar publicity in National Education. “I have much pleasure in accepting the position of nresidont of the Education Court and shall "be prepared to do everything possible to make thij court a success.—Yours faithfully, ‘ (Signed) C. J. Pahr.”
