FOOTBALL.

RUGBY. OTAGO RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr U. H. S. White) occupied the chair. The Secretary said ho had received a letter from the South Otago Sub-union stating that it had been the custom to receive apjilications for the transfer of players by telephone or telegram.—lt was decided to adhere to the decision of the Appeal Committee that it considered it inadvisable to take any action in regard to tho appeal of the Star Club against three players being transferred to the Crescent. Club. J. Jenkins and P. Vorreth applied for transfers from tho Union Fifth Grade team to Southern Fifth, the Union team having defaulted. —It was decided to refer the applications to the Union Club to see if it had any objections.-—lt was pointed out that it wan* questionable whether the executive would be in. order in granting permission to any players to play lor two teams in one season, G. E. South applied for a transfer from the Zingari Club to Alhambra. South stated that he had not played football during (lie present season.-— I Transfer granted as from 12 months from date. A letter was received from the Management Committee of the New Zealand Union stating that tho Auckland Union had withdrawn its requisition for a special meeting of tho union to consider a notice of motion that reinstated League players should be eligible for inclusion in All Black teams. — Noted. Jolly, assistant secretary of the Pirates Club, wrote as follows: “My club has instructed me to convey to your union its support of tho stand taken in your recent endeavours to further the interests of Rugby.” (“Hear, hear.”) A. II offer nan, hon. secretary of the Southern Club, wrote as follows: ‘‘My committee desires me to report, that it absolutely endorses the union's action in preserving its grounds for the Rugby code of football.”—(‘‘Hear, hear.”) The question of sending teams to play against South Otago at Balolutha and North Otago at Oamaru on August 23 was held over till next Monday.—The secretary was instructed to write to the two sub-unions and ask if the date was suitable. Permission was granted the University Club to travel to Christchurch to play against Canterbury College on 'Wednesday. It was decided to play the Third Grad© match between Dunedin and Southern, if necessary, the referee having mad© a piistake in (ho time the match was to start and awarded the game to Southern. The-Secretary reported that the gate receipts at Carisbrook on Saturday amounted to £l7l 18s 9d. and the total receipts for all matches to £lB2 Is 3d. OTAGO v. CANTERBURY.
