(Feb United Press Association.! ■ , GISBORNE, July 31,' Two young men named Albert Edward Duncan and Raymond Woodward were committed for trial on charges of the theft of various sums of money from lodgers in a local hotel. Three earthquake shocks were■ experienced at Tokomaru Ray to-day. The first, which was at 8.40 am., was a fairly heavy shook, and was • followed by lesser shocks at i) o’clock and 9.20 a.m. WELLINGTON. July 31. The Customs dues ■ for July totalled £186,802, compared with £158,002 in' the previous July, an increase of £23,800. The total for the seven months was £1,263,848, compared with £1,227,311 for last year’# period, an increase of £36,537. Important matters will be discussed at > the annual conference of the Electric Power Boards’ Association of New Zealand next week. One of the most important is in reference to the agreement between the Minister of Public Works and the Power Boards in regard to the supply from the Government. A remit from the ManawatuOraua Board asks that the conference discuss the clauses of the agreement between , the Minister and the board in regard to' taking power from. Mangahao. It is stated that the Government entered into an agreement to supply power to a large firm. There may be some opposition to the Government supplying large commercial or business undertakings with power at the same rate as it is being supplied to Power Boards. TIMARU, July 31., Frederick Bowles appeared at the Magi#tjrato’s Court on six charges of indecently assaulting boys, and was remanded till tomorrow, bail being allowed in his own recognisance of £2UO and two sureties of £IOO each.
