M.BORIS KOSTICH.
ENTEBTAIKBD BY ROTARY CLUB, M. Boris Kostiicb, the eminent chess master, was the guest of the Rotary Club of Dunedin at its luncheon yesterday. On behalf of the members the President extended a very cordial welcome to the visitor. During the course of a brief address M. Kostich described a trip recently undar- ’ taken by him through Eastern Europe. He outlined the outstanding characteristics of the various peoples in Jugoslavia, Rumania, ■ Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. Poland, Batavia, Litbtmia, and Russia. Nocessagdy a rapid review, it nevertheless introduced . the audience to excellent glimpses of the manner of life of the inhabitants of these States and of their attitude towards the problems of Government and of commerce. Although he confessed that ho was unabio to understand the inner meaning of Russia’s political movements, he appeared to be : favourably impressed with what be saw Jin Leningrad. The city had a business-lnce stir about it and the people seemed quite •, happv and contented.. Altogether the adj dress" was full of information which proved both interesting and stimulating. OVER THE CHESS BOARD. M. Kostich at the Otago Chess Club lasfi night played 21 games in two hours and a-half, miming 18 and drawing three, iho frames which term mated in a draw were Messrs Balk, Myers, and B. Vf. Stenhouse. The wins were against Messrs Moody, W.. G. Stenhouae, Hastings, Gngg, Crow, Coombs, Wright, Kabe, MCaakiU. Warman. Watt, Parkinson, Braiam, Isaacs, Marlow, Tilly, and Dr Mcmngton.
